Back to School First Week Activities Middle Years 6th to 8th grade

These Back to School, no prep, activities for Middle School students will help you have a smooth first week back. These are classroom tested and approved and are sure to please. 10 activates to choose from that will build classroom community, help students get to know each other and help the teacher get to know them. Simply print and teach! All materials are included in this package.

Activity 1: Students will write a letter to their teacher sharing any important information to help their teacher get to know them better.

Activity 2: Students will get to know their classmates by participating in a Find a Friend activity where students get a chance to circulate around the class and learn about others interests of students in their classroom.

Activity 3: Students will write an autobiographical poem about themselves. This is a great activity to display in the classroom for parent night! I have hung these beside a photo of the student. Very visual bulletin board display! Instructions and writing template included.

Activity 4: Students will create a banner using an acrostic poem that can be hung in the classroom. This is a great way to emphasize building community in the classroom setting as each student contributes a flag to the whole class banner. Banner instructions and template are included.

Activity 5: High Five – Students trace their hand and write about themselves on each finger following a key. Great wall display!

Activity 6: Dice Roll get ta know! This activity is great to get students talking a bit to their peers. They roll a dice and using the key present information about themselves in a stress free way.

Activity 7: 2 Truths and a lie. Students try to stump their classmates by providing clues about them. The class then guesses which is true and which is false. Writing template include.

Activity 8 & 9: Stem create and play doh build. By providing the opportunity for students to be creative and hands on in the first week will engage them instantly into the classroom setting. Students create something about themselves given the teacher prompts.

Activity 10: Students complete the ‘Pieces of Me’ sheets by giving little pieces of information about themselves. They can then share with a partner or group. Great for a wall display or as title pages in their key tabs. I like to read Dr Seuss’s ‘The Shape of Me’ to go along with this activity.
